Season 4 of The Walking Dead may have started with Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) listening to his iPod as he tended to his garden and doted on his (soon-to-be-deadly) little piglets, but Season 5 is already proving to be an entirely different beast. Farmer Rick is long gone, and considering that he and many of the others were locked in a train car at Terminus when Season 4 ended, we’d say that’s a good thing.

Rick, Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), Michonne (Danai Gurira), and Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan) with Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) are featured on four different covers of Entertainment Weekly for the publication’s September issue, and although the covers are wonderfully bloody and brutal in their own right, it’s what the cast and producers have to say inside the pages of the mag that has us really intrigued.

According to Andy, for example, TWD Season 5 is more mature than ever before. “We’re really earning our rating this season,” he explains. “There are families that watch it together, but just so it’s on the record, guys — it’s a grown-up show this season.” In other words, put the kiddies to bed before you settle down to check out Season 5. If Rick’s bloody-knuckled EW cover is any indication of what’s to come, we’ll take Andy’s word for it.

And while we’ve grown accustomed to time jumps between seasons of TWD, executive producer Robert Kirkman once again assures us that won’t be the case this time around — we have to see how everyone busts out of that train car!

“By minute two or three of our season premiere, I think the vast majority of our questions have been answered,” Robert reveals, but it true TWD fashion, it’s not that simple. He continued, “and five or six more have been presented, so you’re very much going to be invested, well-informed, and ready for the ride that we’re going to take you on.” Oh RK, we’ve been ready since the Season 4 finale last March!

Check out all of the TWD Entertainment Weekly covers below — also including several faces of Daryl Dixon, an armed Maggie and Glenn, and a many-handed Michonne — and tell us your thoughts!

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres on October 12 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
