SPOILERS AHEAD!

Rape is such a loaded word — maybe even more loaded than murder. The Walking Dead includes brutal head slicing on a weekly basis, and recently killed off a new mother, but if the AMC show goes ahead with a rape storyline from the original comics, it would certainly prove their point about no one being safe. And it would also prove that The Governor (David Morrissey) is truly evil. And it would further prove that Andrea has the absolute worst taste in men.

The Walking Dead has not been slavishly faithful to the original comic series — not even close. The Hollywood Reporter listed a bunch of plot points from the comics, asking showrunner Glen Mazzara if we’d ever see them on screen. For example, in the comics, The Governor brutally rapes and tortures Michonne (Danai Gurira).

"Right now, the Governor and Michonne are just getting to know each other,” Mazzara answered in the Nov. 2 interview. “They obviously already hate each other and she doesn't trust him. That's a long-running animosity that we intend to get a lot of story out of. Those things are plausible within our universe but we have to earn them. [...] The Governor-Michonne arc is a long story and we want to take our time and do it right and not burn through it and get it over with too quickly. We love these characters and hope they're around for a long time."

At this point on Season 3, Michonne is no longer in Woodbury; she's just reached the prison group. But Merle (Michael Rooker) kidnapped Glenn (Steven Yeun) and his girlfriend Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and we should see them interrogated on this Sunday’s Episode 7, “When the Dead Come Knocking.” Merle seems to rough up Glenn in an attempt to learn the location of the prison (and Merle’s brother, Daryl). But it looks like The Governor might be the one interrogating Maggie. That has led some fans to wonder if Maggie will take Michonne’s place on the TV show and be raped by The Governor. Then again, the TV Governor isn’t quite as vicious as his comics counterpart, so maybe he wouldn’t be the one to do the deed, if they even go in that direction at all.

Executive producer Robert Kirkman warned in a recent interview that Maggie and Glenn are “definitely not going to get out of this unscathed.” We took that as a warning that perhaps one of them could die, and maybe that’s true, but it could mean something different for Maggie.

What do you think will happen next? As we approach Episode 7, Michonne is at the prison and she’s telling Rick about The Governor, so they should be on their way to Woodbury...
