UPDATE: Rumors are swirling that Morgan will return on the Season 3 finale, since actor Lennie James is credited on IMDb for that episode. So ... don't be surprised if you see him, but don't be surprised if he isn't there either. You never know with those credits!

Original story:

On The Walking Dead Season 3, Episode 12, "Clear,” we reunited with Morgan, who had saved Rick’s life back on Season 1. Morgan was in a very bad place — his wife had already turned into a walker when we met him, and when we saw him again we learned his son, Duane, had also turned. (And Duane was bitten by his own mother!)

Rick needs Morgan to be able to come back from his downward spiral, since he’s also on a similar mental path. But when Rick invited Morgan back to the prison, Morgan said no. But maybe it was a soft no and we should try again later? Actor Lennie James — who KILLED it in this episode (did you even know he was British?!) — talked to The Hollywood Reporter about Morgan’s future. Will Morgan consider going to the prison?

“I don't know,” Lennie said. “It's always a possibility, but one of the brilliant things about The Walking Dead is anybody can live, anybody can die, anybody can disappear and anybody can return. If the writers have the opportunity to make an event out of Morgan's return then that's probably a better way to use him than for him just to be there all the time. Either one of those are possibilities and any one of them could be exciting. [...] If Morgan arrived there [to the prison], he probably wouldn't be of any use for any length of time because I think he's a bit like Howling Mad Murdoch from The A-Team: Every now and then he has to go and be locked in a padded room on his own just to reboot. I can't see that it's an easy road back for Morgan to be able to, either in battle or in peace, be able to settle long enough because he just wants things done. There's life and death and there's very little in between and that doesn't necessarily make him a good guy to be around in quiet moments.”

Would Lennie want to return to TWD full-time?

“That really isn't up to me," he said. "I'm about to film a new series for AMC called Low Winter Sun and I'm very excited about that. So if things are possible and if they want me, it remains a possibility. I have nothing but good memories of my time on The Walking Dead and I love playing Morgan and hanging out in Atlanta and playing opposite Andy and the rest of the cast and seeing where they kind of take the story. All things are possible but all things are equally not always possible (laughs). I've liked being there so the rest is up to the gods of television.”

We want him around more often, right? Bring Morgan back! Bring Morgan back!

Comic book writer/exec producer Robert Kirkman also told THR, "It's definitely possible [that Morgan will return]. Morgan is still alive; he is still out there in this world. We wanted to leave this episode open-ended as far as Morgan is concerned. Whether we'll see him soon, whether or not it'll be a while or we may never see him at all, I don't want to pin it down. That option is still available. He could pop up when you least expect him to."
