Job security is rare when your show has a character death toll as high as The Walking Dead's, but three cast members can officially breathe a sigh of relief.... for now! In case you missed our previous coverage, three cast members have been promoted to series regulars for Season 5: Alanna Masterson (Tara Chambler), Christian Serratos (Rosita Espinosa), and Andrew J. West (Gareth). For context, this time last year we were reporting that Chad Coleman (Tyreese), Sonequa Martin-Green (Sasha), and Emily Kinney (Beth Greene) were getting the promotion — and they all played pretty major roles in Season 4. Notably, though, David Morrissey (The Governor) was also a regular for Season 4, so while it usually hints that a character will be influential, it does not mean they're invincible.
This means that we'll likely continue to see a lot more of Tara, who joined up with Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun) after the Governor's assault on the Prison, and Rosita, Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz)'s girlfriend, as members of Team Post-Prison, making everyone trapped in Boxcar A a series regular, since Michael and Josh McDermitt (Eugene Porter) nabbed the title from day 1. The flipside, of course, is that super-shady Terminus leader Gareth will be sticking around for a bit. Hooray?
Are you excited to see more of Rosita, Tara, and Gareth? Let us know your thoughts and theories in the comments!
