What is The Walking Dead Season 3 about? AMC’s The Walking Dead returned for a 16-episode third season on October 14, 2012. Season 3 revolves around the clash of two communities of survivors: Rick Grimes’s (Andrew Lincoln) prison group — which includes Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus), Glenn Rhee (Steven Yeun), Maggie Greene (Lauren Cohan), Carl Grimes (Chandler Riggs), Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson), Beth Greene (Emily Kinney), and Michonne (Danai Gurira) — and The Governor’s (David Morrissey) enclave of Woodbury.
The grim reaper continues to loom, so far claiming main characters Lori Grimes (Sarah Wayne-Callies) and T-Dog (IronE Singleton).
Showrunner turnover: Series creator Frank Darabont stepped down as showrunner after Season 2, and executive producer Glen Mazzara took over for Season 3. As a result of creative differences with AMC, Mazzara will go the way of Darabont when the third season wraps, handing over the showrunner reins to producer Scott Gimple for Season 4.
Season 4 will premiere in fall 2013.
