Dancing With the Stars 2013: Was Throwing Out Online Voting Unfair?

Dancing With the Stars Season 16 was a relatively predictable season, but it's not DWTS without some drama. And for the finale, that drama came in the form of a voting SNAFU that has left some fans frustrated.

Well into the Monday show, voting on ABC.com went down. And it stayed down, much to fans' chagrin. Of course, voting via phone, text, and Facebook was still an option, but a lot of people like to vote online. Still, that was what it was — this isn't the first time a method of voting has been faulty on a reality show, and it won't be the last.

However, during the Results Show, Tom Bergeron nonchalantly mentioned that because voting was down for so long, they decided to throw out all the online votes, even the ones that had gone through earlier in the night.

We certainly understand the logic of that. While many people knew who they wanted to vote for going into the night, plenty of others were waiting to see the contestants dance one last time (hey, that Freestyle matters for a reason). We can see why it wouldn't be fair to contestants who danced later to have the earlier votes counted.

That said, fans who managed to vote online thought their votes had gone through. It's not really fair to them that they didn't know to vote in another way.

What do you think: Was throwing away all the online votes a bad call, or the only way to keep things even?
