On March 24, Team Adam Levine vocalists Austin Ellis and Josh Kaufman belted out a duet to “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. Though the song is relatively new, Adam decided to give the duo the Oscar-nominated tune because of its old school vibe. Mentor Aloe Blacc noted that both singers were polar opposites of each other with Austin embodying the nature of soul music and Josh owning the sound.

During their finale rehearsal, coach Adam told each singer to feed off of one another in order to produce a pretty epic battle. Both guys took the stage for an entertaining battle, with coach Blake Shelton calling it full of energy. Blake noted that Austin had a lot power, but gave the battle to Josh because of his consistent sound. Coach Usher pointed out that Austin had several technical issues, but definitely had a talent with his voice, however, the song choice better complemented Josh’s vocals.

Coach Shakira said that the battle had her “oscillating” back and forth between the contestants, and ultimately found it hard to make a choice. Finally Adam gave his critique, stating that he was proud of both of his soulful singers. However, when it was time to choose a singer to advance to the Knockout Rounds, Adam went with Josh.

Do you think Josh deserved to win the battle rounds? Tell us below!
