Watch Alex Preston Sing on American Idol 2014, Salt Lake City Auditions

We’ve reached the third and final week of American Idol auditions, which means we’re down to the wire on which contestants will compete for Season 13! Since it started back on January 15, Idol’s thirteenth season has already proven to be a totally different animal from previous trips down the Ryan Seacrest road.

Of course, there’s one thing that hasn’t changed: the nail biting experience of auditioning for the judges! January 29’s episode finds Harry, Keith, and Jennifer headed to Salt Lake City, Utah, in hopes of tracking down the country’s next big superstar before it’s off to Hollywood!

It’s here where Keith, Jennifer, and Harry meet Alex Preston. This 20-year-old former band geek has long wanted to make it big on Idol. Now may be his chance! Alex gave auditions a shot in Salt Lake.

And he is great! Typically original songs don’t translate all that well in the brief first encounter contestants have with the all-star judges, but something about how Alex performed made us believers!

And we weren’t alone in our newfound love for Alex Preston. All three judges are all about the guitar-playing 20-something and totally enjoyed his original number. Even more impressive: He says he’s never taken guitar lessons! This kid’s a natural so, of course, it’s on to Hollywood where we hope to hear more from his very adorable, very enthusiastic mother.

What do you think of Alex’s performance? Will he make it to the Top 31? Read our spoilers here!
