Naya Rivera

Watch Naya Rivera in Her First Movie, At the Devil’s Door (VIDEO)

Naya Rivera (Santana) is making up for a difficult spring by having one hell of a summer. The actress was married to Ryan Dorsey in a super secret ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, on July 19, and now she’s getting ready for her big screen debut in horror flick At the Devil’s Door. Get it, girl!

In the video above, courtesy of Entertainment Tonight, you can get a first look of Naya in the film, which will be released on VOD and all digital platforms on August 8 and in theaters September 12. Though Naya will be back for Glee’s sixth and final season, the 27-year-old actress says this movie role appealed to her in part because it was so different from what she’s used to on the FOX dramedy. “I came from a television background primarily and I’ve played Santana for like four years now, and so creatively I was really hungry to do something else and do something different,” she explains.

As Naya noted, her Devil’s Door character, Vera, is nothing like Santana. Calling Vera “really strong,” Naya explains, “Vera really appealed to me because she is so different from Santana, and from the way the two of them look — that was the biggest change. Santana is always very prissy and well put together and Vera is artistic and not really into hair and makeup and I thought that would be interesting for people to see me in a different light. She’s very vulnerable, which I liked because I don’t get to play a lot of that on Glee.”

One other perk to the film? She often appears in scenes with only one other person or even carries the scene herself, which is wildly different than working with Glee’s large ensemble cast. “I wanted to really challenge myself and see if I could do that and make it believable,” she said.
