Watch: Amber Riley Sings “I Am Woman” at Black Girls Rock

On Sunday, November 3, Amber Riley (Mercedes) took to the stage to perform Helen Reddy’s 1972 classic female empowerment anthem “I Am Woman” at the 2013 BET Awards. Dressed in checkered pants and a cheerful yellow shirt, the current Dancing With The Stars frontrunner gave a powerful and inspirational performance.

Earlier that day, Amber had tweeted, “See me Performing on Black Girls Rock tonight! Such an inspiring event, glad I was asked to take part.

Though she’s a seasoned performer on Glee, Amber still felt anxious as she thought about taking the stage for this live performance. “Camera blocking time! It's crazy, I'm just as nervous during camera blocking as I am during the actual performance. Shake the nerves,” she wrote.

As the show aired, Amber’s Twitter was flooded with people showing their support. “I'm at dance rehearsal, I can't wait to watch! Yall got me hype lol thanks for the love. My first big performance solo ☺” she wrote.

In a blast from the Glee past, Dijon Talton — who played football jock Matt back in Season 1 — took to Twitter to congratulate his former co-star. “So.... @MsAmberPRiley is a KILLA!!! Dope performance tonight sis... #Vocals,” he wrote. “@DijonTalton thank you love!” she quickly replied.

What do you think of Amber’s powerful vocals for “I Am Woman”? Do you think this would be a neat song for her to sing on Glee? Head below and let us know your thoughts.
