Watch Lupita Nyong’o’s Oscar 2014 Acceptance Speech (VIDEO)

One of the most unforgettable moments of the 2014 Oscars was Lupita Nyong'o's Best Supporting Actress win. The breakout star won America's heart through her breathtaking performance as Patsey in 12 Years a Slave — which just happened to be her first movie role ever.

Clearly, Hollywood loves this gorgeous actress as much as us normal folk at home. When Lupita was announced as the winner the entire theater immediately broke into a standing ovation, and didn't stop cheering until Lupita, clearly overwhelmed with joy, finally made it to stage.

That reception alone would have made this an Oscar moment to remember, but then Lupita went and gave the best speech of the night. After thanking the Academy, the actress immediately saluted the spirit of the real life Patsey.

"It doesn't escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else's. So I want to salute the spirit of Patsey, for her guidance," she said. She went on to profusely thank director Steve McQueen, her fellow cast and crew members, and her family and friends. Then she ended with this: "When I look down on this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you're from, your dreams are valid."

We dare you to watch the speech and not shed a tear.
