On March 31, Team Adam Levine indie singer Sam Behymer and pop vocalist Christina Grimmie belted out a duet to Song “Counting Stars” by OneRepublic. Adam paired the pop vocalists for the conviction in their voices and thought the battle was their shot at redemption for their not-so-spot-on performances in the first Battle Rounds.

During rehearsals, Adam wasn’t thrilled by Christina and Sam, calling their performance “all over the place.” Chris Martin advised the ladies to lock down the chorus and keep the melodies simple. Taking the stage, the ladies showcased their amazing vocals while keeping the song simple and sweet.

After the battles, coach Blake called little Christina a “ball of fire,” while he felt Sam’s sound was full of finesse. Usher thought that Christina was a natural performer, though Sam held fast to her own, and made for a great performance. Shakira, on the other hand, thought, that while Christina may need some growth, Sam appears to be still searching for her sound.

Adam thought both ladies did very well, considering the struggle they had during rehearsals. After making a “gut decision,” Adam decided to keep Christina on his team.
