Wentworth Miller Comes Out as Gay (VIDEO)

Congratulations are in order for Prison Break stud Wentworth Miller, who came out as a gay man this week and, in the process, stood up for LGBT rights in a public statement against Russia’s “don’t tell, don’t get arrested” anti-gay policy.

With the Olympics slated to take place in Russia next winter, there has been a ton of attention turned to the nation’s anti-gay policies, and plenty of celebrities stepping up to share their opinions on the matter. And the Olympics aren’t the only festival taking place in Russia that have celebrities speaking up.

Wentworth received a letter from St. Petersburg International Film Festival inviting him to attend the second annual event, but turned it down — and came out to the public in the process.

"Thank you for your kind invitation,” Wentworth wrote in a letter to festival organizer Maria Averbakh that was later posted to GLAAD’s website. “As someone who has enjoyed visiting Russia in the past and can also claim a degree of Russian ancestry, it would make me happy to say yes. However, as a gay man, I must decline.”
