Were the Judges Too Hard on Lazaro Arbos on American Idol 2013?

Lazaro Arbos has been a fan favorite since the beginning of American Idol 2013. He endeared himself to viewers by opening up about his struggle to overcome a serious stuttering problem, with singing one of the ways that he’s learned to cope with his handicap.

While he started off with some strong performances, his take on Simon & Garfunkel’s “Bridge Over Troubled Water” being his most memorable, lately Lazaro has received some tough feedback from the American Idol judges.

Tonight might have been the harshest criticism he’s received during the entire competition! Lazaro Arbos performed his version of The Beatles’ “In My Life,” which mentor Jimmy Iovine helped coach him through.

We admit, it wasn’t his best performance, but Randy Jackson called it Lazaro’s worst of the season. Nicki Minaj lamented that his energy just hasn’t been the same over the last few weeks, and that she thinks he needs a confidence boost. Even Mariah Carey, who’s typically been the nicest of the judges, didn’t have the most positive things to say about the song.

Poor Lazaro buckled under the pressure and teared up during his chat with Ryan Seacrest post-performance.

Do you think the American Idol judges were too hard on Lazaro, or do you think he’s slipping in the competition?
