Wetpaint Entertainment’s Dance of the Week: DWTS Season 13, Week 1

On Dancing With the Stars the judges can say what they want — they’re only half the battle. We have our own favorite routines each week. While spmetimes we may agree with the judges’ scores, most of the time we're in it for the entertainment value, the chemistry, the emotional connection and just anything memorable that makes us feel something.

For the DWTS Season 13 premiere, we had a clear winner:

Carson Kressley & Anna Trebunskaya, Cha-Cha-Cha

We're definitely biased, since we have Carson winning this thing in our pre-season prediction, but this Cha-Cha-Cha is exactly why we put him on the list to begin with. He's so much dang fun. Technique aside, you can't help but smile at his exuberance — his open-mouthed glee through the whole thing. He's the Energizer Bunny and, as we said in our recap, he brings out the fun in Anna like no one has since she took Jerry Rice to the finals on Season 2.

We agreed with judge Carrie Ann Inaba who told Carson, "That was my favorite dance of the night, by far!" It turns out it was the dance the judges wanted to see again, too, earning the honor of the very first “Encore Dance” of Season 13, despite Bruno Tonioli’s under-the-breath muttering that the routine had nothing to do with the Cha-Cha. Whatever. The Cha-Cha was definitely a good showcase dance for Carson, but he also has style and class and we're looking forward to his more serious dances, too.
