What Did Ali Tell Hanna at the Hospital? — It Wasn’t a Hallucination After All!
Ali (Sasha Pieterse) is alive — and the Pretty Little LiarsSeason 4 Halloween special "Grave New World" confirmed it. She’s living, breathing, and walking around Rosewood. But Ali is scared to come back for good, and at the very end of the October 22 episode, she gave the Little Liars a clue as to why.
“Did you miss me?” she asked the four stunned girls. They did, of course. But they were also full of questions. Where has she been all this time? And why can’t she come back home?
Ali’s response is clear. She doesn’t feel like it is safe for her to return to Rosewood. The terrified blond wouldn’t say exactly why, but she did give one very big clue: "Remember what I told you at the hospital Hanna..."
We’d always assumed that the visit was just a hallucination. Now, it turns out that Ali really did visit Hanna all that time ago. So what did she say?
At first Hanna questions her. "What happened when you left the barn? We all want to know." Ali replies: “You already do. The four of you combined, you remember more about that night than you think you do."
Hanna continues. “Where’d you go? To meet a boy? Noel?” That just makes Ali snicker. “Noel? Please.”
Hanna insists that Ali tell her the truth. Ali shoots back that knowing the truth won’t make any difference. “How can you say that?” Hanna wonders.
“Because I know...” Ali pauses. “You think the truth is some big shiny disco ball of purity? The go ahead and try it. Be honest. See what it gets you. Telling the truth to the wrong person at the wrong time is how I ended up where I am. Take it from me. You’re always better off with a really good lie.”
We’re still hung up on those last words: “Telling the truth to the wrong person at the wrong time is how I ended up where I am.” If Ezra (Ian Harding) is the reason Ali doesn't feel safe returning to Rosewood, this could be her way of warning the Little Liars not to trust him.
Now we can’t help but wonder: What huge secret did Ali trust Ezra with, and how did it lead to her fearing for her life. Look, we love knowing for sure that Ali is alive. But why is it that every time question is answered, about a billion more seem to pop up?
