What Are Darren Criss’ Favorite Glee Songs From Season 4?

If you ask us, being charged with picking our favorite Glee songs of the year seems like an impossible task. Yet some of the cast members don’t seem to having quite as much trouble!

Darren Criss (Blaine) tells Glee: The Music that one of his favorite Season 4 tunes is from back in Episode 1: “The New Rachel” “It’s Time” by Imagine Dragons. “I had a blast ‘cause we got to do this fun little Stomp the Yard thing,” he says.

“That song kicks so much ass, and I’m so glad I got to sing it!” Darren continues. As you may recall, “It’s Time” was our choice for the best song of that episode, so we definitely approve of Darren’s rendition.

Another song that stands out for Darren is Coldplay’s “The Scientist,” the extremely emotional group number that closed out Episode 4, "The Break Up." He explains, “Singing ‘The Scientist’ for ‘The Break-Up’ was a moment that happens a lot for me Glee, which is you don’t really listen to the words of the song until you have to sing ‘em.”

“There’s a lot of heartbreaking things in [the lyrics] that really related to the episode,” Darren continues. “And having everybody sing it together was a fantastic move — that was a great way to end that episode.” Actually, we think a great way to end the episode would be to have all the couples get back together, but we suppose Darren is entitled to his own opinions.

Melissa Benoist (Marley) also weighed in on her favorites thus far, with her playful duet with Kitty (Becca Tobin) on “Holding Out for a Hero” from Episode 7: “Dynamic Duets” being among them. “I would watch Footloose as a kid, and that song was always so fun,” she says.

Also memorable was her first big Glee number, “New York State of Mind,” also from “The New Rachel.” “It kind of marked the change in my life that happened when Glee came along — and for Marley, too,” Melissa says of the song.

So are any of those songs among your Season 4 faves, or do you have completely different choices? The great thing about choosing your favorite song is that there’s no wrong answer — unless, of course, you choose “Busters Get Popped,” the song that Stoner Brett uses to audition in the season premiere. We’re sad to say, but that would be an incorrect answer.
