Kailyn Lowry on Her Mom, Suzi: “I Learned What Mother I Don’t Want to Be”

It’s been a whirlwind of a week for our favorite Teen Mom 2 bombshell, Kailyn Lowry. Not only did she release her highly anticipated autobiography, Pride Over Pity, on April 22, but just one day after it hit bookshelves, it landed among Amazon’s Top 100 bestsellers!

For those who’ve picked up the read, you know the tales of Kailyn’s past are very raw and emotional, including those about her strained relationship with her alcoholic mother, Suzi.

Kailyn opens up about living with an addict in her memoir, and you guys, it’s not pretty. The Teen Mom 2 star says there were times when Suzi would disappear for days on end without any notice. “I’d wonder if I would ever see her again,” Kailyn wrote.

Not only would she have to defend Suzi when she would arrive to Kailyn’s school drunk, but Kailyn even dabbed in drugs and used her anger as a defense mechanism. “Smoking pot became the hobby I’d never had as a little girl,” she adds. “I talked back to teachers, peers, anyone who rubbed me the wrong way. Occasionally, I got physical and would throw a punch.”

Looking back at those years, Kailyn has sure come a long way. She is now a doting mother of two, Isaac and Lincoln Marshall, as well as a loving wife to Javi Marroquin. Even though Suzi wasn’t around much for Kailyn’s childhood, this girl found a way to learn a few things from her mother.

“I learned what mother I don’t want to be. I learned how to do things differently than my mom did, probably the complete opposite. But I actually also learned that now I have closure and I understand people are who they are. And while I felt like my whole life my mom chose liquor and drugs over me, that’s not really the case,” Kailyn recently explained to OKMagazine.com.

“They kind of overtook her life,” Kailyn continued. “Life is too short to hold grudges against her and blame her for what she did in the past. She is who she is and I accept it and have closure and have peace for myself. I can’t stay mad at her forever.”

Once again, this girl never ceases to amaze us with her strength and courage. We can’t wait to see what Kailyn has lined up next!
