What Was the Saddest Breakup of 2013 So Far?

Some couples are meant to be: Reese & Ryan, Rob & Kristen, Bruce & Kris… Oh wait. Just kidding. Sure, there are a few pairs that we know will make it forever, but for every celebrity match made in heaven, there are at least two couples that go up in flames when we least expected it. So the big question is: Which breakup of 2013 has been the most jarring, scarring, and all around heart-breaking for you?

In one corner, we have Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth. The couple of three-ish years met while filming The Last Song back in late 2009, and though she came from Nashville and he was fresh out of Australia, we just knew the two blue-eyed babes would be forever. They got engaged in June 2012, but breakup rumors abounded throughout their relationship, and they finally ended things officially in September 2013.

And then there’s Kris and Bruce Jenner, who had a similarly tumultuous relationship, but with a much longer timeline. After over 20 years of marriage, the couple announced their separation on October 8, 2013. The statement came on the heels of months of speculation that it was over between the two Keeping Up With the Kardashians stars, after Bruce had already moved into a place of his own.

Showmances are awesome and all, but sometimes real-life versions of onscreen flings don’t last as long as we want them to. Such was the case when Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev split in May 2013. The former couple of three years continues to work together on The Vampire Diaries, which officially makes them better than we are at hanging with our exes.

In March 2013, Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough broke off their two plus-year relationship — but not because of their 14-year age difference. They cited busy work schedules as the straw that broke the two idols’ backs, but the world seems all that much duller without the smiley sweeties joined at the hip.

Last among our biggest heartbreaks this year was Michelle Williams and longtime beau Jason Segal, who split at the end of February 2013. We loved seeing pics of Jason and Michelle walking with her daughter Matilda, and imagined that after losing Matty’s dad Heath Ledger, funnyman Jason was exactly what she needed in her life. Though we’re sure she’s fine, that doesn’t mean we don’t miss them together.

We’re mourning all these breakups, but you tell us: Which one hit the hardest? Did your favorite twosome not make the list? Write it in! Maybe others feel the same.

How am I supposed to pick one?

None of them really affected me
