With Season 13 auditions officially behind us on American Idol, it’s time to gear up for the next level of competition.
After separating the wheat from the chaff (sorry guys, we can’t all be stars) during auditions, the people with the golden tickets head to Willy Wonka’s candy factory Hollywood in one of the most infamous weeks in reality competition history. In a series of increasingly more difficult rounds, the contestants perform individually and in groups, which is always the best worst best.
Slowly but surely, the judges pick their favorite performers in Hollywood for yet another leg of competition, this time in Vegas. Of course, in Season 12, the producers decided to shake things up completely with a “sudden death” elimination bit. Still set in Sin City, the judges had to choose five girls and five guys each night for four nights until they had their Top Twenty.
Got all that? Great, because after three weeks of auditions running from January 15th through the 30th, we’re planning on two weeks in Hollywood. The shows airing Wednesday, February 5, through Thursday, February 13, will be all about whittling the competition down to the semi-finalists. Remember, Wednesday nights are two hours and Thursdays just one.
As for what kind of surprises are in store once we’ve reached Hollywood, that’s anybody’s guess. Sudden death rounds Hunger Games-style perhaps? Ryan Seacrest would make a great Head Gamemaker.
