The Walking Dead has lost several lovely (and one or two not-so-great) ladies over the years — including Amy, Jacqui, Sophia, Lori, Andrea, Karen, Lizzie, Mika, and little Meghan.
We only got to see Meghan (Meyrick Murphy) for three episodes in the first half of Season 4, but we spent a lot of time with her during the two Governor (David Morrissey) standalones, Episode 6 and Episode 7. We were surprised to see Meghan dispatched in such a cold (if admittedly cool) fashion, swallowed up by a buried walker during the Episode 8 midseason finale.
But actress Meyrick was very mature and philosophical about her own character’s death. She had a Q&A with The Walking Dead Interviews Wiki, and explained how she found out Meghan was going to die. “Right after I filmed Season 4 Episode 6, [showrunner] Scott Gimple called me and kind of apologized. I was just like, ‘No — it’s fine, everyone dies in an apocalypse eventually.’”
Not only was she fine with dying, she actually loved filming her death. “Oh, it was one of my favorite scenes to film,” Meyrick said. “I got to play with my death walker — Coleman, and put maggots and worms on him. Plus, I got to play in the mud all day. When we wrapped, I jumped in the river to clean off. It was a fun day to die.” We should all have a classic line like that in our obituaries — it was a fun day to die!
She said her favorite overall scene was the dinner at Martinez’s camp, and she shared what she loved most about working on TWD as a whole. “I loved getting to run from zombies, of course. I’ll probably never get to have that experience again. But I loved every moment; it felt like the best summer camp ever. I made friends, and I will never forget how fun it was working with my The Walking Dead family.”
Very sweet. The Walking Dead cast can be surprisingly adorable sometimes. Read more from Meyrick here. RIP, Meghan!
The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October 2014 on AMC.
