Eight-time Grammy Award-winning singer Anita Baker is known for her beautiful, soulful voice, and these days it looks like our girl is going to be singing the blues. And why is that, you ask? Well, the Detroit native has a warrant out for her arrest — and you won’t believe what it’s for.
According to Detroit Free Press, a bench warrant has been issued for the “Sweet Love” singer in regards to a lawsuit claiming Anita failed to pay more than $15,000 for decorative work done to her Grosse Pointe, Michigan, home.
Just yesterday (March 20), Anita tweeted about the warrant, saying “WHATTT??!!... sittin' in the kitchen watching this on TV. BIG time crazy. Atty on his way to TV Station. Devil sho is busy.”
Attorney Daniel Gerow, who represents the plaintiffs Ray A. Smith Painting and Decorating, told the Detroit Free Press that Anita was ordered to pay the sum of $15,351.41 in 2011 for work done in 2009. “We're not trying to give her any hard time or anything unnecessary,” Gerow told ClickonDetroit. “We just would like to collect the money for my client.”
As for Anita, the singer hasn’t made a public statement in regards to possibly being arrested, but she did take a moment to thank for fans for all their support.
“THANK YOU, for ALL the LOVE & LIGHT u've sent my way. All is well :) Light is Dim... But SHINING ANYway! Grateful 4 every lesson, ab,” she tweeted on March 21.
We hope Anita can work things out. Maybe a rousing performance of “I Apologize” will do the trick!
