This is the first nomination for Nikolaj, who is up for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama for his role as Jaime Lannister. However, it is the second nomination for a Lannister brother, since Peter Dinklage was nominated last year for his role as Tyrion Lannister. Nikolaj has certainly had his work cut out for him this season and he has risen to the challenge, as we’ve seen Jaime transform from a villain (albeit a very entertaining villain) to someone fans can really root for. And how great was his confessional bathtub scene earlier this season? Bra-VO!
Also grabbing her first nomination is Emilia Clarke, who was named to the Best Supporting Actress in a Drama category for her portrayal of Daenerys Targaryen. It’s nice to see Emilia get some recognition for her acting instead of just her looks, and rightly so — her epic scene in Astapor this season was definitely the most thrilling of the season! Dracarus.
Earning a nomination for Best Guest Performer in a Drama is Diana Rigg, who plays Olenna Tyrell. While this is the first Critic’s Choice Award nomination for Rigg, she is no stranger to awards shows. She’s been nominated for an Emmy five times for previous projects, winning Best Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her role in 1990’s Rebecca. With the wit and wisdom she’s brought to GoT this season as Olenna, we wouldn’t be surprised to see her add some new hardware to her mantle.
The Critic’s Choice Awards are set to air June 10 on UStream. Hopefully we’ll get to hear that epic GoT theme song play a few times before the night is done!
Catch the next episode of Game of Thrones on Sunday, June 2 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
