You wouldn’t be blamed for guessing that the answer might be Lea, given that she has stayed so tight with her pals from Broadway’s Spring Awakening, including Jonathan Groff (Jesse) and Skylar Astin. However, it’s not Lea.
Actually, the Glee star who is missing being able to connect with live theatre audiences is Matthew Morrison (Will). “I’ve been on stage since I was 10 years old, doing show after show, and I never knew how much I wanted to be on stage until I was without it,” he tells Washington Blade.
“When I got into Glee and started doing film and TV, and I didn’t have that interaction with a live audience, I realized how much I truly missed it and it’s really where my heart is,” says Matthew, who made a name for himself prior to Glee with such Broadway shows as The Light in the Piazza, which earned him a 2005 Tony nomination.
And when Glee finally packs it in during spring 2015 after Season 6, Matthew — who has recently appeared in films like What to Expect When You’re Expecting — knows what he’ll be doing next. “I’m going to go back to the stage,” he says. “It’s been kind of calling me for a while and I’m looking forward to jumping back on.”
Are you surprised that Matthew wants to get back into theater after such a successful run in TV and film?
