Who Is “A” on Pretty Little Liars? 3 Reasons We NEED to Know
The Pretty Little LiarsPowers That Be have claimed they’re not “pulling a Toby” with the “Ezra is ‘A’” reveal in the Season 4 summer finale, and we hope they’re telling the truth. Here are three reasons why we need PLL to tell us who “A” is once-and-for-all (whether it really is Fitz or not).
To Avoid Being the Show That Cried Wolf
Much like the boy in the classic fable, we fear PLL utilizing all of their goodwill with premature alarms only to discover that — when they do finally reveal the big bad — we just don’t care anymore. We already felt it a bit with the “Ezra is ‘A’” shocker. Sure, it was bold and intriguing, but we couldn’t help but think of the last time PLL pointed the finger at one of the Liars’ significant others and how that turned out. We’re willing to give PLL the benefit of the doubt here, but if this “Ezra is ‘A’” thing doesn’t end up being true, then we can’t guarantee much of a reaction with the next “Fill-in-the-blank is ‘A’” reveal.
They’ve Done It Before... And Survived
We understand the show’s hesitancy to reveal the identity of the chief antagonist. They don’t want PLL to lose the sense of urgency and mystery it so depends on. But the show has successfully navigated these waters before when Mona was revealed as “A” in the Season 2 finale. PLL wrapped up one mystery in a satisfying way, but moved onto another, and created a new and interesting direction for Mona’s character in the process. We’re not suggesting that PLL do the exact same thing with Ezra — acknowledge that he is “A,” have the Liars take him down, then appoint a new one — but that doesn’t mean they should be afraid to move past this phase of the mystery.
To Reaffirm the Liars’ Status as Badasses
We love the Liars because they are independent fighters who make the brave choice to hunt down their tormenter instead of remaining as powerless victims. And, in that spirit, we think it’s important for them to make progress. Otherwise, they’re kind of lame. In the summer finale, it seemed like they were finally getting somewhere. They found “A”’s lair, and potentially even found Ali... But a real coup to their pursuit would be the reveal of “A.” We don’t want this reveal to be the end of the mystery, just an important landmark as they fall deeper down the rabbit hole.
