Who Is “A”? Our Top 3 Suspects From Pretty Little Liars Season 5, Episode 10
"A" didn't make any direct appearances on Pretty Little LiarsSeason 5, Episode 10 (“A Dark Ali”), but plenty of top "A" suspects made some major moves. In some cases, we became less suspicious — Melissa (Torrey DeVitto) confessing seems to rule her out, unless this video is yet another trick — and in others, our sketch-meter started going off harder than ever.
Who stood out as particularly shady this week? Here are the top three people we're suspecting right now.
Why she might be "A": Um, did you see the part where Cy was a plant by Alison (Sasha Pieterse) all along. Clearly, she's willing to go to any length to cement her story as fact, and she used some pretty incredible acting skills to make it happen. Ali had everyone — even us! — convinced that she had no idea why Cy was confessing, when she was behind it all along. If she can do that, she can do anything. And as we've said before, we could totally believe that Ali is currently keeping the myth of "A" alive primarily to keep the Liars intimidated and under her thumb.
Plus, there's that "A" tag, which shows that "A" has a candy striper outfit — you know, like the one Ali wore when she visited Hanna in the hospital way back in Season 1.
Why she might not be "A": If she's "A,” who is she running from? Was there a different, original "A," and now she's taken over the role?
Why she might be "A": We try to avoid the "Ali has a twin" theory, since the writers have made it sound like they aren't going in that direction, but sometimes it's hard not to mention. This week saw the return of Ali's Vivian Darkbloom costume, and with it comes the suspicion that maybe it's her (evil) twin who's wearing the wig. If so, that would mean the twin is the one who hired Cy, which would explain how Ali could seem so genuinely confused about what was going on without requiring her to me an award-caliber actress.
Why she might not be "A": Well, there's no solid evidence that this theoretical twin actually exists. If there's no twin, that twin can't be "A.”
Why she might be "A": Mona (Janel Parrish) is back to her spying ways, and she proved this week she's still as good as they come. We believe her when she says she's scared of Ali, but is her solution to that fear to fight back as the biggest bad of all? Sure, she claimed to be trying to track down "A" when Hanna (Ashley Benson) got into the car with her, but nothing says that can't be a lie. Maybe, as "A," she knew she wasn't the one who hired Cy, and was trying to figure out who was.
Why she might not be "A": As we've said before, we've already seen Mona as "A,” and we prefer her as a free agent now. Much more interesting.
