Who Is “A”? Our Top 4 Suspects From Pretty Little Liars Season 5, Episode 6

"A" is back in a big way on Pretty Little Liars, and on Season 5, Episode 6 ("Run, Ali, Run") we got some major insight into the big bad. It appears they killed Ali's mom, and rather than wanting Ali dead (at least right now), what they want is to keep her alive — but stuck in Rosewood.

So, who could it be? Here are the people we have our eye on right now.

Jenna Marshall

Why she might be "A": Jenna (Tammin Sursok) has more reason than anyone to want Alison (Sasha Pieterse) (and the Liars) to suffer over a long period of time. Because of Ali and the Liars she's blind (or at the very least has been forced to fake it for years; if she faking it, that's quite the act), and now her girlfriend — who she did seem to care for — is dead. We could totally see Jenna deciding death is too simple a punishment for everything that's happened to her.

Why she might not be "A": As we've said in past weeks, Jenna has been targeted in the past, too. We're just not convinced she's the one in charge of it all.

Mona Vanderwall

Why she might be "A": We know Mona (Janel Parrish) has the skills to be "A"; what if she never really gave the position up? Or regained it? "A" has gotten a lot more extreme this season, but we could see Mona totally snapping now that Ali is back — and she's definitely twisted enough to want to keep Ali around. We could totally see her end goal being to have Ali completely humiliated, not dead. What better revenge for "Loser Mona" than to turn the Queen Bee into "Loser Ali"?

Why she might not be "A": The writers have already been down this road. Would they really do it again?

Melissa Hastings

Why she might be "A": Melissa's (Torrey DeVitto) hard to get a read on — could she be the kind of person who would want to keep Ali around to torture her? Or maybe she thinks she'll be able to teach Ali a lesson and change her, as long as she stays in Rosewood? We could see Melissa thinking like that. Plus, we know she was up to something with Spencer's dad the night of Mrs. D's death, and that has us on high alert.

Why she might not be "A": We get why Melissa would go after Ali, but we have a much harder time seeing her torturing her own sister, so it's hard to see her as "A".

Alison DiLaurentis

Why she might be "A": OK, OK, after "A" attacked Ali this week, this seems like a pretty far-fetched theory. But what if that wasn't "A"? There are a lot of people who would love to give Ali a good scare, and we know she can spin any situation to her advantage. Or heck, maybe Ali even staged the whole attack. Ali is a master manipulator, and so part of us can't help but wonder if she brought "A" back into play because she could feel the Liars slipping out of her control. Hey, it's worth thinking about...

Why she might not be "A": Well, "A" did appear to attack her this week. The simplest explanation is that "A" really is Ali's enemy, not her alter-ego.
