Who Is Dr. Whale? Clues From Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 2

Who is Dr. Whale? The mystery continues on Once Upon a Time Season 2, Episode 2: “We Are Both.” We only saw him for a moment, but it was a telling one.

So what did we learn about this mysterious character this week?

As you can see in this clip of the episode, while everyone else was bothering David/Prince Charming (Josh Dallas) with serious questions about what to do now that the curse is broken, Dr. Whale (David Anders) only had one thing on his mind: sex.

"Are the nuns still nuns, or can they, you know, date?" he asks, hilariously.

Beyond being a funny line, this is notable because it suggests that Whale's womanizing ways, which we observed all through Season 1, are part of his Fairytale Land identity — or at the very least, his Fairytale Land identity doesn't mind that part of his Storybrooke self.

What do you make of this clue? If you're in the "Whale is Frankenstein" camp, how does this fit in? Does it give you another idea about who he could be? Share your theories in the comments!

Catch the next new episode of Once Upon a Time on Sunday, October 14 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
