American Idol Season 13 contestant George Lovett is only a little miffed that the show has spurned him when he auditioned for previous seasons: "I feel like I got sent home a little early, and I'm just back to kinda redeem myself."
But fast forward to Season 13, and this Baltimore native is back and headed to Hollywood with a Golden Ticket after a successful audition in Atlanta — and perhaps still in a fugue over the accomplishment!
"I feel like I was the only [Golden Ticket winner] who was kinda into myself a little bit," he tells Fox in a behind-the-scenes feature. "I felt like I was in a cloud. I was just spacing out a little bit. I felt like it just wasn't real, like it was a dream because I've thought of this moment for so, so, so long.
He's just hoping to emulate his own personal idols, which includes the singer Brandy — "She's a very skillful recording artist" — and Patti LaBelle — "I grew up in a family with a lot of women, a lot of belting high sopranos, so … she's been a big influence on me and my performance."
George thinks he can go all the way because of his unique voice: "I bring an urban type of rhythm and blues, soulful, pop type of thing to the competition … I feel like God put a voice in me, and … it's just my duty to present it to the world … I would just be betraying everything I believe in not to be the next American Idol, or at least try."
We have a feeling we'll be seeing a lot more of Mr. Lovett!
