Who Is Jesse Campbell From The Voice Season 2?

Who is 42-year-old Jesse Campbell from Season 2 of The Voice? He's not just a loving father and talented singer — he's also a survivor.

Jesse moved to Los Angeles from his hometown of Chicago with his wife and daughter to pursue his life-long dream of making music. But when he couldn't provide for his family financially, his wife walked out, leaving Jesse alone with his little girl.

In the blink of an eye he was not just a single dad — he was also homeless. Jesse ended up sleeping in his car, with his daughter on his chest, until his brother moved to town to help out. After a year, Jesse was back on his feet and making a living singing in churches and at weddings.

Although it's been a long, hard journey from the street to the stage, it's obvious he's got real, God-given talent. In 1994, Jesse signed with Underworld/Capitol Records and released his first single, "When You Cry, I Cry," from his debut album, Never Let You Go. In addition, his voice can be heard on the Dead Presidents soundtrack in the song "Where Is Love."

In recent years, Jesse has focused on his gospel career, recording Hymns from the Heart Vol. 1 CD, which is available on cdbaby.com. He was also a featured soloist on the soundtrack of Stephen Spielberg’s film Prince of Egypt.

"To win The Voice," he says, "would be like a fresh start for my daughter and me. It will enable me to take care of some things that she really needs. Because it's always been about taking care of my daughter. This one's for you, baby girl."

His rendition of "A Song for You" (which was previously recorded by Herbie Hancock and Christina Aguilera in 2005) speaks for itself — all four coaches turn around and applaud Jesse with a standing ovation. After a suspenseful commercial break, Jesse ultimately picks Christina.

Could Jesse Campbell be the next winner of The Voice? Tune in every Monday night at 8 p.m. ET on NBC to find out!

In the meantime, keep up with Jesse on Facebook, Twitter, and check out some of his music on YouTube.
