American Idol 2014 contestant — and new Top 31 honoree — Kristen O'Connor has two ways of making people feel better: her voice and her medicine.
"I'm a nurse tech," the Sanford, Florida, native explains. "And when I go to the hospital, I feel like I'm doing something important. Patients that are in the hospital — they're not having a great day, a great time in their [lives]. But to be that light in someone's face, it's an amazing feeling."
Despite her obvious knack for the job, however, a career as a nurse is not this 24-year-old's ultimate dream.
"Being here is amazing," she says. "I wanna make it in the music industry so bad. This is everything I wanted, absolutely."
For her audition, Kristen sang a virtuosic version of Sam Cooke's "Good Morning Heartache."
Was it enough to get her to the next round of auditions?
"Come on, Nursey!" judge Keith Urban said after her performance, beckoning her to the table to get a golden ticket.
"A pretty, singing nurse," J.Lo observed. (And, for the record, she's a pretty, singing, piano-playing nurse, as a recent Instagram video of hers proves.)
Sounds like the start of a whole new chapter for this University of Central Florida alum: "I feel amazing — I feel like it's finally happening. I can't believe it — so excited and so grateful and just… I can't wait."
