Who is Shelbie Z.? 5 Things to Know About The Voice Contestant

It was the hip shake that changed everything. The Voice’s Shelbie Z. had already shown us what an amazing singer she was, but it was that now-infamous Shakira-like move she gave when facing off against Briana Cuoco that made many sit up and take notice of the country singer on Team Blake. One thing is for sure – she is no shrinking violet, but there is a lot more to the Jasper, AL, native than that.

1. She’s not single. Sorry, guys! The sassy singer with the gorgeous, long blonde locks is married. Although we don’t know much about her hubby, we know that he’s very supportive. Shelbie described his thrill at her making the live rounds during an NBC interview, and he was over the moon for his soon-to-be-famous spouse.

2. She was a cheerleader in high school. She shared that info with a Twitter follower, writing, “@MckenzieGrace1 I love that you cheer I was a cheerleader in high school #besttimeever #memories.”

3. When not pursuing her music career, Shelbie is a cosmetologist and a pageant consultant for young girls. Perhaps she shares the secret to her hip-shake. We know we’d like to know it! Shelbie also competes in pageants and, according to her bio on NBC, she uses this to show off her amazing vocals.

4. Kaley who? According to an interview with Starry Mag, Shelbie didn’t give it a second thought during the knockout rounds that she was performing against the sister of famous sitcom star Kaley Cuoco. As she said of Briana, “I don’t think that that ever crossed my mind, honestly, because Bri is an amazing singer. And honestly, I thought, you know, I didn’t really base it off her sister. I pretty much based it off how amazing she is...It’s not really about who you know and who you are as a person, but how you are as an artist.”

5. Girlfriend does not struggle with confidence. In fact, it’s just the opposite. In the interview with Starry Mag, she talks about the importance of holding on to humility, and how that was the best advice she got from coach Blake Shelton. As she put it, “Keep your sass but control it at the same time. There’s a fine line between being confident in yourself and being arrogant. And I really have to watch that.” You go, girl!
