American Idol 2014: Who Should Go Home From The Top 8 — April 10, 2014?
It’s that time again: Somebody will be leaving the American Idol stage tonight — this week, for sure, now that the judges’ one save of the season was used on Sam Woolf last week. After last week’s awesome performances, we were a little disappointed by the caliber of this week’s '80s night. Is it just us, or is the Top 8 looking a little tired?
So who are we going to say goodbye to this week? If our tingling Idol senses are right, we have a feeling Malaya Watson will be the one waving goodbye at the end of tonight’s results show.
Here’s why: Last night, Malaya gave what we think is her weakest performance of the season. While she was up there singing Chaka Khan’s “Through the Fire,” she suddenly sounded like she’s started to doubt herself, and it shows through her vocals. Unfortunately, this resulted in a less than stellar end product.
The judges agreed, and took turns reminding her to let her talent do all the heavy lifting. “You just need to relax up there,” J.Lo advised. “Totally relax and just go for it. Especially for somebody who has the vocal ability that you have. You don’t even have to try. It’s gonna be there for you every time.”
“It sounded like that entire performance was geared up for that, like you had that in the back of your mind,” Harry added of the high note moment of the song. “I felt you sacrificed some of the early part of the song — what you were really singing about — to set that up.”
Malaya wasn’t the only contestant who failed to impress, last night. One of our favorites, CJ Harris, was a little meh on his not-so-unique rendition of Tom Petty’s “Free Fallin'” and we have a feeling we might see him in the bottom three.
Do you think Malaya should go home, or will it be someone else? Let us know how you predict tonight will go in the comments!
