American Idol 2014: Who Went Home From the Top 9 — March 27, 2014
Another one bit the dust tonight during American Idol and it sure wasn’t an easy goodbye. Maybe it had something to do with the new, shorter format of the 30-minute result show, but this evening’s episode felt particularly brutal. Guess reality TV show eliminations aren’t exactly like ripping off a bandaid: They’re no easier when done quickly!
So who went home from the Season 13 Top 9? We’ll tell you but first let’s give a shoutout to Janelle Monae who brought the house down with her amazing performance. We’ve wanted to see her perform live for longer than Idol’s been on, but contestant Majesty Rose’s amazing cover of “Tightrope” earlier this season made Janelle an ever better choice for Idol guest star. If only we’d had more time to enjoy her performance…
From the thrill of Janelle’s number, we went right into eliminations. Tonight’s top three were Sam Woolf, Majesty Rose, and CJ Harris. This trio is particularly surprising to us but the judges didn’t seem all that shocked! "All the voting is really performance based," Harry Connick, Jr. said, the other two judges seeming to agree.
Unfortunately, the end of the line came for Majesty who waved goodbye to Idol. The judges three decided to pass on their save (which is only good for three more weeks). We can understand why they didn't use it this evening, though. Majesty was good last night and again this evening but she seemed to falter more than the other contestants. Still, best of luck to you!
American Idol returns for the Top 8 performances on Wednesday, April 2!
