Who Will Die Next on The Vampire Diaries Season 5?
The Vampire Diariesis notorious for killing characters off, and it totally works for a show where vampires, witches, werewolves, and ghosts populate the cast of characters. But that doesn’t mean each death doesn’t hit us hard, or send the other characters into a tailspin of depression. (See Elena’s burning of her childhood home in Season 4.) This is why we like to be prepared. Who will die in Season 5? Here are our predictions.
We love you Ty, but you haven’t had much to do this season, and what you have had to do hasn’t been wildly compelling. If TVD aims to make a character death hurt, then they’re going to have to kill off one of their original and main characters. Tyler seems the best bet, given that his absence would greatly affect the show, but not devastate it. Though he is integrated into the central plot, he doesn’t drive much of his own story. He is an underutilized and ineffectual character. His death might be the exception to that statement.
Julie Plec recently said that most new characters are “created to die,” which doesn’t bode well for recently introduced siblings Liv and Luke, the former of which is a witch (we’re not sure about Luke). These two seem to have some connection to the Travelers, and are perhaps even working against them? To do so, they have manipulated Bonnie into thinking Liv is a newbie witch and Elena into thinking Luke is her random friend from when Katherine was possessing her body. Basically, they’re playing with fire, and we think at least one of them will get burned. Too bad, too. They both have some serious charisma and in its fifth season and counting, TVD could do with some new energy.
OK, fine. We know everyone in the supernatural purgatory is technically dead, but that doesn’t mean as much when both Bonnie and Jeremy can see ghost and Matt can pop over to the Other Side whenever he dies while wearing the Gilbert ring. But that’s about to change. According to Julie Plec, “There are going to be a lot of goodbyes as we realize the other side is disintegrating. Not everybody is going to survive that. We’re going to have to say goodbye to some characters that we’ve grown to love over the years. That’s what we’ll see when we get to the finale.” Um, what?! No more quick visits from Alaric and Vicki? No more ominous warning from Grams? No more villains-we-thought-gone back to seek their re-revenge? We’re not sure how we feel about this.
If the Other Side does disintegrate, where does that leave Bonnie? As the anchor to the Other Side, we’re not really sure if she’s alive or dead? Perhaps, she’s both? Either way, the destruction of the Other Side can’t be good for her. Will she die in the Season 5 finale? We think there’s a good chance. It wouldn’t be her first time dying, but it might be the last.
