Dancing With the Stars 2014: Who Will Go Home on Season 18, Week 8?

We’re down to six strong couples on Dancing With the Stars Season 18. The last two eliminations — Drew Carey and Cheryl Burke on Week 6, and NeNe Leakes and Tony Dovolani on Latin Night Week 7— weren’t too shocking, considering their placement on the judges’ leaderboard and the other options . But now what? Who will go home on Monday, May 5?

Here’s the scoreboard after Week 7:

Meryl & Maks — 39 + 39 = 78

Amy & Derek — 36 + 39 = 75

Candace & Mark — 35 + 39 = 74

Danica & Val — 33 + 39 = 72

Charlie & Sharna — 36 + 35 = 71

James & Peta — 35 + 35 = 70

We’d gotten used to seeing Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas toward the bottom but they pulled out a great night of dancing and now they’re third from the top. Good for them, but they were the next logical option for elimination — even though they’d been on the bottom before and survived. Now that they aren’t even on the bottom, should they still be considered best bets for elimination, or will one of the couples below them go home?

It’s bizarre to see James Maslow and Peta Murgatroyd on the bottom, when they were the first to get a perfect score this season, but you know how fortunes go up and down on this show. Their fan base is young and vocal but this is Jeta’s real test. Then again, there’s only one point up to Charlie White and Sharna Burgess and one more up to Danica McKellar and Valentin Chmerkovskiy. Everyone had an interesting storyline Latin Night — including Danica’s broken rib, Amy Purdy’s hurt back, Candace’s emotional therapy, and Charlie being robbed by Len Goodman, once again. Sometimes when the judges frustrate viewers, that turns into primary vote motivation.

DWTS has been doing a “not necessarily the bottom two” all season, so we have no way of knowing who was ever really in danger of going home and just scraped by. This elimination will be an interesting litmus test of how fans reacted to all the emotion, injuries, shirtlessness, and scores of Latin Night.

Who is going home? Eh. Candace? Danica? Charlie? We’ll stick with the Candace guess for now, since the scores are still pretty tight, but we won’t be shocked if that turns out to be wrong.

It’d be nice if everyone could stay, but since someone has to go, name your elimination prediction in the poll below.

Candace is next.

Who knows!
