Why Did Superstar Figure Skater Evgeni Plushenko Drop Out?
Despite what your boyfriend might say about so-called “real sports,” figure skating isn’t a joke. Serious injuries come with the territory and, unfortunately, it was such an injury that derailed the Olympic dreams for one figure skater. Russian Evgeni Plushenko had to drop out of the men’s short competition at the very last second last week after he injured his back while warming up.
Was Evgeni’s bad news common knowledge? Turns out yes. We asked Viggle LIVE! users what they thought the reason was behind the Russian’s quick exit from the competition and an overwhelming 93 percent of voters correctly picked back injury. The other two options on the table — the flu and a broken leg — weren’t even in the running with the first getting just 4 percent of votes and the second 3 percent.

So will the 31-year-old skating superstar be okay? That’s not as clear. He recently had spinal surgery and after the jarring his back took during practice, he’s already announced he’ll be passing on the gala show ending the Sochi Olympics this Saturday, February 22. At least he has one gold from the Games to take home; Evgeni helped his home nation claim its first win of the Games in the team skating event earlier this month.
