Why Is There No New Game of Thrones on May 25, 2014?

As you may have realized during last week's promo, there's no new Game of Thrones this Sunday, May 25, 2014. Sorry, guys, but you have to wait until next Sunday, June 1, to see Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal) face off against The Mountain (Thor Bjornsson) on Season 4, Episode 8 (“The Mountain and the Viper”).

Why the break? Presumably because this Sunday is part of Memorial Day weekend, which is always a hard weekend for TV. Many viewers have Monday off, and will be spending their Sundays outside enjoying the weather. Game of Thrones also took this week off for Season 3. Back in Season 2, the epic "Blackwater" episode aired over Memorial Day weekend, leading to a dip in the ratings, despite the episode being one of the most anticipated episodes of the series at that point.

What can you expect from "The Mountain and the Viper" when it does air? Here's the official synopsis: "Unexpected visitors arrive in Mole’s Town; Littlefinger’s motives are questioned; Ramsay tries to prove himself to his father; Tyrion’s fate is decided."

And here's the promo to help tide you over!

Catch the next episode of
Game of Thrones on Sunday, June 1 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on HBO.
