X Factor 2013: Why Jeff Gutt Will Win

Jeff Gutt is the dark horse of this year’s X Factor and you know what they say about dark horses: They win.

This single dad from Detroit may not have come out of the gate strong like say fellow semifinalists Alex & Sierra, but week after week Jeff has given strong performances. He really caught our attention, however, with his Top 10 performance of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The iconic song has seen more than its fair share of covers on reality TV music competition shows but Jeff’s lent a new edge to the oft-trotted out number. And once Jeff had conquered Freddie Mercury’s high notes there was no stopping him.

Jeff’s Top 8 rendition of “Feeling Good” followed by his Top 6 songs, Elton John’s “Daniel” for his brother and Mariah Carey’s version of “Without You,” have solidified his standing as one of the show’s top contestants. Meanwhile, the behind-the-scenes footage of his adorable son have solidified that little tyke’s standing as heartbreaker-in-training.

As the only Over 25 team member remaining and judge Kelly Rowland’s last chance to win this season, Jeff has plenty of pressure on him as we gear up for the finale. But based on the way he handled that Mariah number — a song completely out of the devoted rocker’s wheelhouse — Jeff seems to do best under pressure.
