Back in September, Nina Dobrev and Derek Hough dated for a hot minute, and while many Vampire Diaries fans struggled to wrap their heads around Nina officially moving on from her three-year romance with co-star Ian Somerhalder, we here at Wetpaint approved of her rebound.
Not only is the 28-year-old Dancing With the Stars pro (and Emmy winner!) her bestie Julianne Hough’s brother (so there’s a lot of history there), but Nina and Derek actually have more in common than we thought. Here are three reasons Nina and Derek would make a cute couple — if they decide to rekindle their romance.
1. Great relationships start with friendships. It’s no secret Nina and Julianne are besties — she’s practically been adopted into the Hough family! — so it’s not surprising Nina and Derek became such close friends, too. And seeing how some of the best relationships start as great friendships (see: Rachel and Ross on Friends), Nina and Derek’s romance seemed inevitable… or shall we say, destined. Julianne isn’t going to let her bestie be with any old scrub, and who better to woo her BFF than her charming (and mega talented) older bro? Plus, all the close family time with the Houghs means mom and dad already approve of the relationship.
2. They have the same adventurous spirit. Nina is a risk-taking free spirit, and luckily for her, Derek shares the same lust for life. When these two aren’t snowboarding down mountains together, they’re posting inspirational messages on their Instagram accounts. “What are you going to do to create a better version of who you truly are?” Derek recently posted. We bet Nina was looking over his shoulder adoringly when he sent that message.
3. They love to dance! Need we say more? Just when we thought Nina and Derek couldn’t be any more compatible, they go and engage in an epic dance battle on Christmas! A couple that dances together, stays together, amirite?
What do you think, TVD fans: would Nina and Derek make a cute couple? Sound off in the comments!
