Why Was Lazaro Arbos Eliminated on American Idol 2013?

After weeks of speculation on when exactly Lazaro Arbos would be the one who went home on American Idol 2013, he was finally eliminated on the Top 6 results show.

When a finalist is kicked off American Idol, we always like to speculate on why it was there time to go. For Lazaro Arbos, however, the answer to that question was very easy. The real question for Lazaro was... why did he stay so long?

There is no question Lazaro stole our hearts in his first appearance on American Idol 2013. His sweet demeanor, adorable bow tie and touching backstory of overcoming a lifelong stutter and bullying to pursue his dreams made us go “awwwhhhh” and embrace him like we used to latch onto oddball Glee characters and fall in love with them — until Glee started sucking worse than an immense black hole in deep space.

Much like what happened with Glee, the cute gradually became seriously annoying as Lazaro kept messing up his lyrics, going off pitch, and making constant excuses for why his performances kept bombing. It never seemed to be Lazaro’s fault he wasn’t very good. He was constantly blaming everything but himself in front of the American Idol judges and in interviews with the press.

Instead of lack of talent, Lazaro’s failures were always because he had never heard the song before because he was “born in Cuba” or this music was not something he ever listened to because he was “born in Cuba.” Oh, and there was also the whole ‘they switched songs on me at the last minute’ excuse in there too.

We loved Lazaro’s adorable penchant for vibrant colors and his incredibly cute style and personality... when he wasn’t whining. Simply put, however, he was a terrible singer and we aren’t quite sure how he ever made it to the Top 10 finalists in the first place. Or how he managed to stay in the competition all the way to the Top 6.

Oh wait, there is that whole moving backstory thing that inspired a legion of followers to love and support Lazaro — let’s not forget that. And also those trolls who just can’t help but Vote For The Worst contestant just to defy the system. Between the two crowds, they managed to propel him all the way to the Top 6. Thankfully, that was as far as they could push him.

Now Lazaro Arbos is out at last and we can get down to the real business of listening to some amazing talent battle it out in the first all female American Idol Top 5 in the show’s history. Who will American Idol 2013? Well, we can tell you one thing — it will finally be a girl again!
