‘Wife Swap’ Family at the Center of a Double Murder Investigation
A family that appeared on ABC’s reality series Wife Swap, are now at the center of double murder investigation.
The Stockdale family, who also have a family band, appeared on the show back in 2008.
Allegedly, one son shot and killed his mother and brother, before shooting himself in the head.
Officers arrived at the family home on Thursday afternoon after receiving a 911 hang-up call, according to CBS News.
The officers spotted someone through an open door of the house, followed by a gunshot.
Twenty-five-year-old Jacob Stockdale was found alive but with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.
Police then discovered the bodies of his mother, Kathryn, and younger brother, James.
The brothers were members of the Stockdale Family bluegrass band with their father Timothy, who wasn’t home at the time of the tragedy.
The family’s two other sons live in a different town.
“Kathy has been my beloved wife of 32 years and a wonderful mother to our four sons,” Timothy said in a statement.
“She loved nothing more than being a mother and grandmother.”
The family's eldest son, Calvin, spoke highly of his youngest brother, James, who was an aspiring entertainment businessman working on a business degree.
“James, our youngest brother, has always been a catalyst of family fun,” Calvin said. “Aside from being a gifted musician, James enjoyed dancing and had an innate love of people.”
Calvin also said that Jacob remains in critical condition and they’re “praying for his physical recovery as our family makes funeral plans and begins the healing process.”
At this time, it’s unclear what led to this terrible incident.
“It’s hard to surmise what the motive may have been,” Stark County Sheriff George T. Maier said, before adding, “There’s some speculation.”
Our thoughts are with the family as they go through this trying time.
