Ezra (Ian Harding) and Aria (Lucy Hale): For four seasons, they have been one of Pretty Little Liars’ most beloved couples. Sure, the whole student-teacher relationship was a little weird. But these two were clearly in love. Who were we to judge?
Then, during PLL’s Season 4 summer finale, the world as we knew it came crashing down. It was revealed that Ezra is “A” — the very same “A” who has been tormenting Aria and her friends all these years. Oh, and did we mention that he probably hooked up with Ali (Sasha Pieterse) back in the day, too? Um, not okay.
So is that it? Is Ezria over... forever? After all, we can’t really imagine Aria wanting to stick with Ezra after she learns the truth. Then again, their love is strong. Maybe it will be able to overcome everything. (Somehow?)
Lucy Hale previously said that Ezra was Aria’s true love, and plenty of people aren’t willing to give up on these two just yet. “I think their relationship is going to be a fun one to watch,” Ian Harding tells TV Guide. “Ezra has a secret that Aria is not aware of. So, that's going to be the interesting thing there.”
But even with Ezra’s huge secret, Ian still thinks that his feelings for Aria are genuine. “I do think he is in love with her, but something else is driving him and I'm just as excited as the fans to see what that thing is.”
Obviously, we still have a lot to learn about what is motivating Ezra to be “A.” Once we have a bigger understanding of the full picture, Ian thinks there might just be hope for Ezria yet. “There's obviously still love there. There's still something there, but the situation is strained now.”
At the end of the day, there is still hope. But this once seemingly perfect love story just got a heck of a lot more complicated.
