Will Ian Somerhalder Replace Charlie Hunnam as Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey?

Over the weekend, Sons of Anarchy actor Charlie Hunnam dropped the much-sought after role of business magnate Christian Grey in the film adaptation of bestselling book Fifty Shades of Grey. Now that the NSFW part is up for grabs again, does Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder (Damon Salvatore) have a chance?

It’s hard to say at this point. Though many fans of both TVD and Fifty Shades of Grey have been vocal supporters of Ian’s casting since the movie was announced, a previous report said that Robert Pattinson was author E.L. James’ first choice for the role (which makes sense, as Fifty Shades began as a Twilight fanfiction), and that Internet favorites Ian and White Collar’s Matt Bomer were not even considered for the role.

A for Ian’s interest in the role, following the casting of Charlie, Ian didn’t say he hadn’t wanted the role, but did point to his busy television filming schedule as a potential deal breaker. He told Huffington Post Live, “Guys, I’m on a TV show that shoots 10 months a year, and I’m so unbelievably grateful for all the support and all the cheering and all the love.” As filming for Fifty Shades is currently set to begin in November, it seems like the casting of Ian would be tricky with his TVD filming commitments. But you never know!

Do you think Ian would make a good Christian? Sound off in the comments below!
