Dancing With the Stars was recently renewed for its 19th season, and there’s a new sheriff in town as showrunner. Rob Wade was a producer with the show a while back, so we hoped maybe some old school stuff might be returning for DWTS this fall. Like the Tuesday night Results Show.
Season 18 is winding down, and we’ll get Tuesdays back for the May 20 Finale, but … sorry … the Results Show is not on ABC’s fall 2014 schedule, which was just released today (May 13).
DWTS has its usual 8-10 p.m. block on Mondays, but on Tuesdays at 8 p.m., ABC is airing a new show called Selfie. At 8:30 is another new show called Manhattan Love Story. At 9 p.m., they are airing the new season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. So, no Results Show.
In November, departing DWTS showrunner Conrad Green talked to Entertainment Weekly about how losing the Results Show was an ABC decision; he wanted to have that Tuesday spot back for DWTS. "But the network, they wanted to launch the Marvel show [Agents of SHIELD], and some comedies after it, and they have their own priorities and that’s perfectly valid. So then we have the problem of what do we do? Because if you’ve got one night a week, all of the options aren’t brilliant.”
We’re stuck with those not-brilliant options this fall. Oh well. At least the fall season still exists. Are you disappointed, or have you gotten used to one night of DWTS a week? Maybe you even prefer it?
DWTS Season 18 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
