It's just hair?

Apparently it is for Will Smith, who seemed to have no qualms about chopping off his son Jaden Smith's iconic blonde-tipped dreads. He even showed them off on Facebook!

The 18-year-old had  his luscious dreads for some time now. But when his dad made the decision to hack them off, Jaden looked less than pleased — at least, according to his expression in Will's pictures!

But it's all for a good reason. This summer, Jaden will start shooting Life In a Year, a new movie his dad is producing, so he's going to need a new look to get into character. What better barber than his own dad/producer?

"Getting Jaden Smith ready for the first day of filming #LifeInAYear...maybe I should’ve used scissors?!" Will captioned pictures of him pretending to rip Jaden's hair right off his skull.

In the film, Jaden will play a teenage boy who finds out his girlfriend is dying of cancer. He then embarks on a mission to make her last year of life the best it can be.

The teen will star opposite Cara Delevingne, Terrence Howard, and Nia Long.

But what does Will Smith look like with bleached dreads? Apparently the actor was curious, too, and snapped a picture of himself holding Jaden's hair to his head. Looking good, Will!

In an interview with BBC Radio last year, Will admitted he and wife Jada Pinkett-Smith may have "gone too far" with their hands-off parenting style.

"Yeah, I think it may have been a mistake," he said, though he doesn't really seem too troubled.

When pressed about his children's controversial behavior, Will explained that his parenting style may have led to his kids being more free, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

"Jaden is 100 percent fearless, he will do anything. So as a parent it's scary, it's really terrifying — but he is completely willing to live and die by his own artistic decisions and he just doesn't concern himself with what people think."

We think Will's parenting is just fine — and his haircutting skills aren't too shabby, either!
