Would Maks Chmerkovskiy Like to Be a Permanent Dancing With the Stars Judge?

What would you think if Maksim Chmerkovskiy was a full-time member of the Dancing With the Stars panel?

The longtime pro seemed to fit right in with the judges on the Season 17 Semifinals. Bruno Tonioli left him with bruises from all the flailing, and maybe he was a little nicer to everyone than expected, but it seemed to go well overall. He didn't even fight with Carrie Ann Inaba or Len Goodman. Carrie Ann gave him a hug for agreeing with her!

So would Maks like to make an official transition to the judges chair, perhaps in the spring 2014 season? On the Red Carpet asked him that after Monday's show. Maks smiled and said, "We'll cross that bridge when we get there." He said he hasn't had any conversations with The Powers That Be on that subject. "There's been no discussions. This came up very rapidly. Val got eliminated, I got a call, and now we are here."

Having a pro as a permanent judge brings up all kinds of questions. It's OK for one week for a pro to judge his or her sibling, but what about for a full season, when your words and scores have more impact?

Everyone wondered if Julianne Hough could be impartial when it came to her brother and old dance partner Mark Ballas. Maks didn't have to deal with the sibling question since Val Chmerkovskiy was gone, but he did offer compliments to all the pros — including his ex-fiancee, Karina Smirnoff, and his best friend, Tony Dovolani. Corbin Bleu probably didn't need any help from Maks, and Maks didn't offer any help to Leah Remini. Tony ended up leaving this week, so it's not like Maks jumped in to give Leah a high score to save his friend.

Anyway, rumors keep coming back that head judge Len Goodman might be leaving us, so new judge questions aren’t just academic. There was gossip that the show might try to go for a younger audience, and then more gossip that Len might want to quit DWTS because he already works on Strictly Come Dancing in London and the commute is awful for anyone, even if you aren’t 69.

Then again, we’ve wondered about judge changes before and our beloved trio always returns.

Would you like Maks to return as a guest or permanent judge?
