Who needs an Olympic gold medal when you could have a Dancing With the Stars Mirror Ball trophy, right?
OK, maybe DWTS’s $12-$15 choking hazard trophies aren’t quite as prestigious, but the show does have a history of Olympians going from gold medals to gold rhinestones. So why not ice dancers Meryl Davis and Charlie White? They are obviously familiar with the show, since they tapped five-time pro champ Derek Hough to choreograph for their history-making win at the 2014 Winter Olympics. And if anyone could put on a good show, it’s two people who already know how to dance beautifully on the frozen floor.
So would they do DWTS? "If we were asked to be on that show, I think we would be really excited for that opportunity for sure," Meryl said in a pre-Olympics teleconference (via People).
Should The Powers That Be call her or Charlie (or both)? Derek himself is on the fence about returning for this spring’s Season 18, but TV Guide asked him about Meryl or Charlie going on the show, since DWTS tends to “poach” an Olympian after each games.
“That's true!” Derek said. “If they ever do the show, that'd be awesome.” However, he thinks they might want to defend their title at the World Figure Skating Championships, which will be held March 24–30 in Japan. That would certainly conflict with DWTS Season 18, but it wouldn’t stop either of them from showing up in the fall season or later on.
Do you like the idea of Meryl or Charlie joining DWTS at some point or do you think they might be too good for the show? Figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi dominated Season 6 and she wasn’t even an ice dancer. You have to imagine Meryl and Charlie would be amazing on the dance floor, which some fans would love to see, but others would consider their experience an unfair advantage. Where do you stand?
