With numbers staying consistently low throughout the season, we’ve got to ask: Will Season 3 be the last for X Factor in the U.S.? When rival shows like CBS’s The Big Bang Theory and even NBC’s latest addition, The Sing-Off, trump an established reality show like X Factor is there any hope it’ll return?
As of publishing, Fox is staying mum on the topic but we do know the channel’s former reality chief Mike Darnell was pushing for higher numbers. As he told TVLine earlier this year, “If its ratings stayed where they were at, we’d be very happy.” Seeing as the Season 2 finale brought in 8.3 million viewers and a regular Season 3 episode has been lucky to draw in half that sized audience, we’re going to wager the folks at Fox aren’t “very happy.”
Still, with the finale slatted for December 18 and 19 and fan favorites Alex & Sierra still in the running, The X Factor may yet pull a ratings coup out. The real question though is if anyone would stick around to watch a fourth season. Would you? Sound off in our poll below. Or check out the initial results.
