Game of Thrones Writer on the Pressure: “I’m Terrified All the Time”

Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman has been getting a lot of attention recently, thanks in no small part to the fact that he wrote the much-lauded trial of Tyrion Lannister in Season 4, Episode 6 ("The Laws of Gods and Men"). It’s not all glory and accolades though, as Bryan discloses that writing for GoT can be a frightening experience.

“I’m terrified all the time,” Bryan tells the Hollywood Reporter. “You’re talking to me now as we’re writing Season 5 and I’m at the stage where I think everything is going to be terrible.” Let’s hope season 5 isn’t terrible! Though, to be fair, Bryan has written some pretty awesome scenes this season, including the White Walker baby factory scene, so we have faith in him to help make season 5 great.

Bryan goes on to reveal when he finally calms down after writing an episode, and it takes him longer than you might think. “I go through all seven stages of whatever a writer goes through,” Bryan reveals. “I’m a wreck when I’m writing the show. It’s not until you see it air with an audience who enjoys it that you can finally relax.” Given how much everyone enjoyed Tyrion’s trial, Bryan must be feeling super relaxed right about now!
